Re “A Detector With Detractors,” Sept. 24: I am incensed at the L.A. Police Department for putting the lives of our officers on the line by allowing them to go into tactical situations relying on DielectroKinetic Labratories’ high-tech dowsing rod. To say that field testing of the device proves its effectiveness conclusively where reputable laboratory testing proves otherwise is like saying that officers should be issued bulletproof vests made of car windows because bullets have been known to ricochet off car windows in tactical police encounters.
The police, the FBI and Tom Clancy have all been duped. But at least Clancy deals in fiction. The rest are playing with lives. Idiots.
