Mother Gets Prison for Starving Baby
From Times Wire Reports
A Chicago mother who stopped for a manicure instead of taking her starving baby to a hospital was sentenced to four years in prison for his death. A doctor had told Dianna Meeks, 25, she needed to take 2-month-old Dontory Jordan to the hospital immediately because he was perilously underweight. He died while wrapped in a blanket in the nail salon. Meeks was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Dontory weighed 5 pounds, 11 ounces at birth but was down to 3 pounds, 7 ounces when the doctor saw him in 1997.
