Work to Begin on Emergency Room
Los Robles Regional Medical Center will break ground next week on a $6.5-million emergency room facility, which officials say will reduce waiting time for patients and give them more room.
“We’re expanding it because the number of patients has increased over the years. We’re 30 years old,” spokeswoman Kris Carraway-Bowman said.
Hospital officials plan to expand the ER by 7,400 square feet and add nine treatment rooms, Carraway-Bowman said. Plans include adding rooms for cardiac, orthopedic, isolation and mental-health care as well as exam rooms for gynecology and pediatrics.
The ER will remain open during construction.
Hospital officials expect the new ER to reduce waits that sometimes last three hours for patients with non-life-threatening problems.
“We’re unclogging the system by tripling the size,” Carraway-Bowman said.
Carraway-Bowman said the emergency room now averages about 2,600 patients a month, a marked increase over four years ago.
In the past two years, the hospital has opened new facilities to supplement its 255-bed main hospital on West Janss Road, officials said.
