Campus Life at CSUN
It is no surprise that a survey found that there is no campus life at Cal State Northridge (“Campus Life Is Oxymoron, Survey Says,” March 24). There wasn’t in 1975-76, when I first attended CSUN, nor in 1997-98, when I returned for post-graduate work.
CSUN has never been a student-friendly campus. It is cold and uninviting, in architecture and atmosphere. For a commuter school, it is commuter-unfriendly. Parking is a daily struggle.
Upon returning to CSUN after 20 years, I find that many younger students aren’t interested in getting an education, only a degree. Many rarely attend class, and if they do, show up late, disrupting professors and fellow students. They are unable to cope with college-level classes. CSUN seems more like high school than a university. Obviously, this has a serious effect on the morale of those students who care about their college experience.
