Manhattan Dist. Atty. Robert Morgenthau plans to drop charges against more than 1,200 demonstrators who were arrested last month for civil disobedience over the police killing of an unarmed West African immigrant. Amadou Diallo, a 22-year-old street vendor, was killed as he stood in the vestibule of his Bronx apartment building on Feb. 4. Four white police officers have been charged with second-degree murder. They are accused of firing 41 bullets, 19 of which struck Diallo.
