Double-Murderer Executed by Injection
Double-murderer Alvaro Calambro was executed by lethal injection at Nevada State Prison in Carson City after authorities rejected an 11th-hour request for a stay filed by his native Philippines. Calambro, 25, had refused to appeal. He and accomplice Duc Huynh were convicted for the 1994 murders of Peggy Crawford and Keith Christopher during a $2,400 robbery at a Reno U-Haul outlet. Huynh also got a death sentence, but hanged himself in prison. Philippine officials tried to stop the execution by arguing that it would violate the Vienna Convention because they weren’t immediately notified of his arrest. Death penalty foes held a candlelight vigil.
