Intel Expected to Whittle Chip Prices

Intel Corp. is expected to cut prices on most of its products by up to 25% Sunday as it looks to boost demand, analysts said. Intel is expected to cut prices on its Celeron chips, used in low-cost personal computers, by as much as 25%. Prices on its Pentium II chips likely will be cut as much as 16% and by as much as 17% on its Pentium III chips. Rival chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc., which has been gaining market share at Intel’s expense, said it also will cut prices on its K6-2 processors on Sunday. Intel had cut prices of its Pentium II chips by 15% to 20% on Feb. 28, when it introduced the Pentium III.
