The City Council voted Tuesday to spend $5,000 to co-sponsor the annual Volunteer Appreciation Night on May 22. Last year, the city spent $4,000; the increase is necessary due to a change in the evening’s format, which now includes hors d’oeuvres, dancing and live music. The Community Events Commission, a coalition of service groups, helps sponsor the event, which honors those who have donated time and effort to the city in the last year.
