Infotec Names Top Operations Officer

* James A. Sorensen has been appointed chief operations officer for Infotec, a provider of training and education for high-tech professionals. He had been chief financial officer since 1997. Sorensen joined Infotec from Alpha Microsystems Inc. in Santa Ana, where he was chief financial officer. Before that, he was chief financial officer for Interfilm, an interactive entertainment company.

* Denise Hards was named vice president and general manager of Topac U.S.A. Inc., a division of Toshiba America Information Systems in Irvine. She had been vice president and corporate treasurer for Toshiba. In her new position, Hards is responsible for the acquisition and management of a nationwide network of office-product dealers in the United States and Latin America.

* Kevin Daly has joined Micro Therapeutics Inc. in Irvine as vice president of regulatory affairs and quality assurance. Daly succeeds Jack Gehrich, who is retiring but will continue with the company on a full-time basis as a consultant. Daly was formerly director of regulatory and clinical affairs for Medtronic Interventional Vascular in San Diego.

* Robert Clunie has been named general manager of the Dave & Buster’s at the Block in Orange. He succeeds Mike Meyer, who moves on to become general manager of a new location in St. Louis. Before joining Dave & Buster’s in 1995, Clunie was an assistant general manager for TGI Fridays in Plantation, Fla.

* Paul A. McCulley has rejoined Pacific Investment Management, the fixed-income unit of Pimco Advisors Holdings L.P. in Newport Beach, as an executive vice president. McCulley has been a managing director and head of economic research for the Americas and served as head of U.S. fixed-income strategy for Warburg Dillon Read. Earlier, he was an account manager and monetary-policy specialist at Pacific Investment Management.

* Michael J. Schroeder has returned to private practice after serving two years as chairman of the California Republican Party. He is now counsel full time to Hart, King & Coldren in Santa Ana. Schroeder, who joined the firm in 1990, will focus on health care, insurance law and government affairs.

* Elyse Bruffey has been named account supervisor at the Roxburgh Agency in Costa Mesa. She had been an account executive.

* Vernon Moore has been appointed a manager in the audit department of Corbin & Wertz in Irvine. He has more than six years of audit experience in the accounting industry.

* Elizabeth Pearson has formed Adworx, a marketing and advertising firm, in Laguna Beach. She was formerly national advertising manager for Coldwell Banker and vice president of marketing for a division of Shearson Lehman.

* Richard Crawshaw has been named vice president of engineering for Odetics ITS in Anaheim, a supplier of products and services to the intelligent-transportation systems market. He was most recently director of engineering. Before joining Odetics in 1995, Crawshaw held a senior engineering position with Hewlett Packard.

* Daniel Wayland has joined John Sweeney Photographic Services Inc. in Irvine. He was formerly senior graphic designer for Broadcom Corp. in Irvine and a graphic designer for Exponents OC/LA, a company in Yorba Linda that designs trade-show booths.

* Brad Quigley has been appointed vice president and director of sales for SDI Capital in Newport Beach. He had been vice president of sales for the asset-based lender and commercial leasing company. Succeeding him in that position is Robert Coffey, who was formerly team manager overseeing the operations of account executives. In addition, David Frank was named vice president of national accounts, and Frank Freer was appointed director of marketing.

* John G. Combs has been appointed president, U.S. Property Services, for New York-based Insignia/ESG Inc. Combs is responsible for property-management operations, agency-leasing and construction services for the 200 million square feet of space that the company services across the United States. He also oversees the firm’s national fee-development and facilities-management operations. Combs, who previously served as president of the West region, will remain based in Irvine.

* Pamela Hummel has been named vice president and account executive in the surety department of Willis Corroon Corp. in Santa Ana. She was formerly vice president for Aon Risk Services. In addition, Rachel Phillips was appointed account manager in the employee-benefits department and David Plotnik is now an account executive in the construction department.

* Rick Sharga has been appointed executive vice president and general manager of Shafer Public Relations in Irvine. Sharga had served as Shafer’s director of client services and was responsible for managing the agency’s public relations and advertising account service groups. Before joining Shafer, Sharga was director of public relations for Sybase and director of marketing communications for Dialogic Corp.
