America West Holdings Corp.’s America West Airlines Inc. said President Richard Goodmanson resigned and Chairman and Chief Executive Bill Franke assumed the post. America West reorganized the unit into two groups, operations and corporate. Gilbert Mook, 56, former senior vice president of air operations at FDX Corp., will head the operations group as executive vice president and chief operating officer. W. Douglas Parker, 37, the airline’s chief financial officer, will lead the corporate group as executive vice president. Goodmanson, 51, a former Frito-Lay Inc. transportation executive, is the second president to leave the Phoenix-based airline in the last four years. A. Maurice Myers, now chairman and chief executive of Yellow Corp., left America West in 1995 after two years when he realized Franke had no intention of making him chief executive quickly, analysts said. Mook and Parker will run the daily operations, and Franke will focus on strategy. America West shares fell 19 cents to close at $19.44 on the NYSE. The company made the announcement after the market closed.
