GSI Lumonics to Close Oxnard Facility

Share

GSI Lumonics, created by last month’s merger of two companies that make laser-based manufacturing equipment, said it will shut its Oxnard plant and take an unspecified charge related to the closure.

The move follows last month’s $86.6-million merger between General Scanning of Watertown, Mass., and Lumonics of Kanata, Ontario. The General Scanning division makes medical-diagnostic equipment and computer chips, while the Lumonics division--which has 65 employees in Oxnard--makes equipment to cut and drill materials for the aerospace, automotive and packaging industries.

GSI Lumonics officials said they expect to fire an unspecified number of employees. Details will be provided when the company reports May 5.
