CAROL K. SAMANIEGO, Manager, Consumer Affairs Office, U.S. Postal Service, Santa Ana

Our national service centers were developed as a result of reports that our customers often encounter busy signals or long waiting times when trying to get needed information from their local post offices.

Our research showed that the vast majority of calls to local offices were requests for ZIP Codes, rates, hours, locations and other general information that could be more efficiently handled by trained operators utilizing the latest technology. Handling these requests at a central location allows local post office personnel to concentrate their resources on local operations.

Any customer may request to be transferred to their local post office by providing their delivery ZIP Code. Each postal district also has a consumer affairs office and a business center that are staffed and have public lines from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
