Troops Kill 5 in E. Timor Violence
From Times Wire Reports
Indonesian troops shot and killed five youths and wounded several others in fresh violence in the troubled former Portuguese colony of East Timor, Portugal’s Lusa news agency reported. The agency quoted a spokesman for the National Council of Timorese Resistance as saying the shooting occurred about 15 miles southwest of the territory’s capital, Dili. Tension is running high in the occupied territory as it prepares for a historic, United Nations-organized vote on its future in July.
