The Old Town Music Hall is presenting a four-day Humphrey Bogart Festival, which kicks off today with Bogart’s last film, the 1956 boxing drama “The Harder They Fall” (1956), in which he stars as a sportswriter-turned-publicist who rebels against the corruption within the sport. The Bogie festival will continue throughout the weekend with the Truman Capote-penned, John Huston-directed romp “Beat the Devil” (1953) and “The Caine Mutiny” (1954), Edward Dmytryk’s film adaptation of Herman Wouk’s bestseller.

Leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic in an intriguing program of American music from the 20th century, guest conductor Alan Gilbert returns to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion stage. The young American musician, who has won prestigious conducting awards, will preside over Carl Ruggles’ “Men and Mountains,” John Williams’ recent “The Five Sacred Trees,” with bassoon soloist David Breidenthal, and Aaron Copland’s Symphony No. 3. (Gilbert conducts the same program Sunday afternoon, and an abridged version--without the Ruggles and Williams works but with L. Bernstein’s “Candide” Overture--Saturday at 2 p.m.)
