ORANGE COUNTY EARNINGS

Universal Electronics Inc.: The Cypress supplier of remote controls and other devices for home video and audio equipment posted net income of $449,000, or 7 cents a share, for the first quarter, a gain of 31% from the $343,000, or 5 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales totaled $20.9 million. Sales for the first quarter last year were $22.9 million, which included $4.4 million from its discontinued North American retail business.
