Marshal Bill

I can’t think of a finer western actor than Sam Elliott to play the legendary Bill Tilghman (“The Call of the West,” by Sean Mitchell, April 18). Here’s one Old West character that needs no “Hollywood embellishment.”
During his career, Tilghman (not Tillman, as the article had it spelled) was a buffalo hunter, police chief, state senator, U.S. marshal and Hollywood filmmaker! In 1924, in his seventh decade, Tilghman was killed “on the job” while serving as town marshal of Cromwell, Okla.
I’m sure Elliott will do Tilghman proud.
