Beyond Comparison

I seriously believe that Shakira is, and will continue to be, the epitome of rock en espan~ol (“Queen of Crossover?” by Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, April 18).

It’s about time people start recognizing her as an original artist and not a cheap rip-off of Alanis Morissette. I am a huge fan of both and they truly are not alike. The comparison in the past always made Shakira look like the one copying Alanis, but finally you cleared up the confusion about the cover of “Donde Estan Los Ladrones” and the cover of Rolling Stone.

Shakira has what it takes to make the crossover into the English alternative rock scene, and it doesn’t hurt to have the help of the Estefans backing her.

Thanks for accepting the Spanish rock scene as being an important one. This is the type of article that will keep me subscribing.
