Court Orders Target 75 Gang Members

Share

Los Angeles police officers served injunctions against 75 members of the Culver City Boys gang over the weekend in an effort to crack down on the Mar Vista-area gang that has been implicated in a wave of deadly shootings in Santa Monica last fall.

The court orders prohibit the gang members, including 23 juveniles, from associating with each other in public, using pagers, engaging in harassment and intimidation of others, and damaging or defacing property within a specific area.

The area covered by the injunctions is bounded by Venice Boulevard on the north, Centinela Avenue on the west, Sepulveda Boulevard on the east and Jefferson Boulevard on the south.

The injunctions are the latest to be sought by the district attorney’s and city attorney’s offices and the LAPD against violent gangs in certain parts of Los Angeles. “This is probably the most active gang on the Westside of Los Angeles,” said one official. “It is certainly pound for pound one of the most dangerous gangs in the city.”

The Culver City Boys have engaged in deadly clashes with rival gangs and innocent bystanders in the Oakwood part of Venice, in Inglewood and in Santa Monica, where eight shootings last October resulted in four deaths and six injuries.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti, City Atty. James Hahn, Los Angeles Councilwoman Ruth Galanter and LAPD Pacific Division officials will announce the injunctions at a news conference this morning.
