MTA to Repair Street Damaged by Subway Work
The Metropolitan Transit Authority has approved funds to repair a two-mile stretch of Lankershim Boulevard damaged in subway construction.
On Thursday, the MTA Board of Directors, on the recommendation of MTA Chief Executive Julian Burke, unanimously approved spending as much as $1.3 million to fix the section of Lankershim between Bluffside Drive and Chandler Boulevard, said agency spokesman Ed Scannell.
At the meeting, Burke said although the MTA had not caused all the damage in the area, “it was clear we’ve caused major disruption” and that delaying repairs would increase construction costs, Scannell said.
On Tuesday, County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky urged Burke to spend the funds to fix Lankershim, where construction of a Red Line subway station had damaged the street, created inconveniences to motorists and discouraged shopping.
