A 22-year-old man convicted of stabbing a Van Nuys woman about 100 times was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Travis Bone of Sherman Oaks was sentenced by Judge Tricia A. Bigelow at Van Nuys Superior Court.

In March, a jury convicted Bone of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of torture in the 1997 attack.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Jeffrey Boxer said a coroner testified that Cindy Fry, 30, was alive when Bone stabbed her about 100 times in the front and back.

Bone said that he stabbed Fry in self-defense after they argued in her Van Nuys apartment and she came at him with a kitchen knife.

Bone was dating the sister of Fry’s boyfriend when the attack occurred.
