Law and Change
Re “Religious Rights: The Devil Is in the Details,” Aug. 1: Our Constitution, created to protect our freedoms when first implemented, now in some cases infringes on our basic rights. One example is the right of citizens to bear arms. This outdated law has outgrown its intended purpose and now works against our society.
The Religious Liberty Protection Act now challenges many citizens (such as those with different sexual orientation), threatening to take away their rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The world and our country have changed since the Constitution was written. Therefore our laws should also change to support, not tear apart, our society.
