Alhambra Schools Hire New Superintendent
The Alhambra school board has announced the appointment of a Long Beach school administrator as the district’s new superintendent.
Myrna Rivera, who will assume her duties in the century-old district Aug. 16, replaces Richard Keilhacker, who retired last month. Rivera has been deputy superintendent of the Long Beach Unified School District.
“Her abilities, her track record [are] just incredible. She’s visionary and has a lot of good ideas,” said school board member Barbara Messina. “We’re very fortunate to have her.”
Rivera, who has worked as a classroom aide, teacher, vice principal and principal, earned a doctorate in education from USC.
The Alhambra City and High School Districts serve about 20,000 students in kindergarten through high school from Alhambra, Monterey Park, San Gabriel and Rosemead, plus 20,000 students in adult education.
