Outraged by ‘Black Hoe’ Radio Promotion

Share

After reading “Disney Radio Station Accused of Racial Discrimination” [Aug. 7], I was angered greatly. A total disregard and disrespect was shown toward [KLOS-FM employee Judy] Goodwin and all black women in general.

There is no excuse for this type of behavior in any work environment. If the harassment and retaliation reportedly suffered by Ms. Goodwin prove true, I think that it would clearly show that racism does exist and appears to be condoned at Disney.

We all should start to question the “true” standards of such a company. I commend Ms. Goowin for taking such brave actions and hope that one day the type of insensitivity and demeaning treatment suffered by her will be a thing of the past.

* I am offended by this station’s outrageous and racist marketing campaign of “Black Hoes.” This promotion demeans and further marginalizes minorities, specifically African American women. It legitimizes the beliefs and actions of the white-male-dominated hate groups that are proliferating across our country.

I will encourage my friends and co-workers, of all ethnicities and ages, to tune to another radio station from now on. I will also write the advertisers to encourage them to sponsor programs and stations that support the American ideals of tolerance and equality, not prejudice and hate.

* I believe KLOS’ malice and insensitivity represent a clear example of how this society has failed to educate Americans about the horrors of this country’s past.

If people were sufficiently educated on the repeated degradation and rapes of black women in the United States over centuries, no decent human being with compassion in their heart would think of such a humiliating and horrific promotion. Would the station consider a humorous “Gas Chamber” promotion in the Fairfax district?
