Siggraph 99 drew 42,690 computer graphics professionals from six continents last week during its six-day run at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The final attendance figure was about 6,000 short of the record set in 1997, the last time the Assn. for Computing Machinery’s special-interest group on computer graphics held its annual conference in Los Angeles.

In addition, 337 companies participated in the Siggraph 99 trade show, where the latest products and technologies were on display. One highlight of the conference was the world premiere of “The Story of Computer Graphics,” a 90-minute documentary tracing the field’s origins from an MIT laboratory to its current role as a critical element in visual communications.
