City officials may throw down the gauntlet tonight on a rundown apartment complex after unsuccessfully trying to get the landlord to bring the building up to city and county codes.
The City Council will consider what measures, including demolition, to take against the unsafe and unsanitary conditions at 219 S. Melrose Ave., a three-unit apartment structure that was declared a public nuisance in June. The public hearing is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in City Hall.
Mangal Verma, the owner and landlord, said his tenants will be moving out in the next few days so he can begin fixing the problems on his property.
