Honda Motor Co. said it will begin exporting its Mexican-made Accords to the United States in October, thus joining other major auto companies in selling their Mexican-built models in the U.S. market. Honda currently produces the Accord in Mexico for the domestic market and imports the Civic to Mexico from its U.S. plants in Ohio. Next year Honda will also begin making Accord engines in Mexico. It currently imports the engine from the United States. The Japanese auto maker expects to export about 1,400 vehicles to the U.S. from Mexico next year, a spokesman said. Honda’s Mexican plant is in the western state of Jalisco, where it also produces some of its smaller motorcycles. Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp., DaimlerChrysler, Volkswagen and Nissan Motor Co. also produce cars in Mexico for the domestic and export markets, with most of the foreign sales destined for the United States.
