1996 J.M. Fuentes Priorato “Grand Clos,” Spain (About $32)

Share

Spanish wines keep getting better and better. The 1996 Fuentes “Grand Clos” is an example of what’s coming out of the rugged Priorato, an ancient winemaking region where vines are old and yields are low. This blend of Garnacha (Grenache) from 60-year-old vines with 10% Carinena (Carignan) and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine of distinction by any measure: deep and concentrated, with ripe, velvety tannins. It would go beautifully with grilled or roasted lamb.
