Parking for a Price in Old Sacramento
Visitors to Old Sacramento may soon be paying to park.
A committee of city officials and Old Sacramento merchants recommended this week that parking meters be installed at what are now free 90- and 45-minute street parking spaces in Old Sacramento.
Fifteen-minute spaces would not be metered.
If the City Council agrees, it would mean that the last of the big blocks of free parking in the core downtown area will be gone.
The parking charge was considered at the council’s request. It is looking for ways to reduce the amount of money City Hall gives Old Sacramento for promotions, marketing, maintenance and event planning.
