A record number of incoming freshmen at Cal State Fullerton this year are president’s scholars. Twenty-one students from Southern California were chosen for their high school academic and extracurricular accomplishments. President’s scholars attend Cal State Fullerton on full scholarships, receive a $500 annual stipend for textbooks and a laptop computer.
In previous years, there were only 10 to 12 scholars a year, said Susan Parman, chair of the President’s Scholars Screening Committee. Parman attributed the record number of scholars to an increase in applicants as a result of more effective advertising. More high schools are now aware of the program, she said.
