Work has started on park improvement projects ordered by the City Council in June, City Engineer Bob Woodings said. The city will install play equipment, picnic benches, sun shelters and city identification signs at certain parks. It also will add handicap-accessible ramps, walkways and parking. Each of the city’s 17 parks will receive improvements, Woodings said. The council voted to spend nearly $730,000 on the improvements this year. The projects should be completed by October, Woodings said. Additional park lighting projects will begin next spring, he said.
