Bloomberg News

Gartner Group Inc., the Stamford, Conn.-based company that sells research and analysis on the computer industry, said it cut its work force by 175 employees as it shifts its focus to electronic commerce. The company’s shares fell $1 to close at $21.81 on the NYSE; their trading was suspended for about one hour pending the news. Gartner President and Chief Executive William T. Clifford said the cuts are “necessary as we respond to client demand for our e-business expertise.” Accounting and consulting firms have been offering more e-commerce services as a way to attract and retain clients.
