Workers began demolishing a former French restaurant last week to make way for a strip club on Beach Boulevard.
The Flamingo Adult Theater will replace the former Le Marseille restaurant as early as the end of the year, said Max Ahmadi, a spokesman for the Tatarian family, which owns the property. The Tatarians had been locked in a lawsuit with the city over zoning and permit requirements since 1996, but a legal settlement in June cleared the way for construction to begin.
Despite the settlement, the city remains concerned about inciting prostitution, drug use and “lewd acts” by club customers, Assistant City Administrator Melanie Fallon said. “We will be very diligently watching them to protect our community,” she said.
