City Council members granted owners of apartment buildings on Tina Way and Pacific Avenue an extension to make repairs to their properties. The city had sent owners a letter demanding corrections to what officials labeled public health and safety hazards. The letter set an Aug. 27 deadline to fix a variety of problems, ranging from structural deterioration to damaged walkways. Failure to do so could result in criminal action. Owners turned out at Tuesday’s City Council meeting to say they needed more time. Mayor Harry Dotson expressed a hope that the future would see a more cooperative effort between the apartment building owners and the city, adding that he believes that “the apartment owners want to do something” to help. Landowners now have until the end of September to fix the problems.
