The City Council and Mothers Against Drunk Driving honored four police officers for their efforts to fight driving under the influence of alcohol. At Tuesday’s council meeting, Police Chief James Cook commended officers Cord Vandergrift, Craig Turner, Steven Phillips and Mark Lauderback for making a total of 176 arrests on suspicion of drunk driving within the last year--even though the officers are not formally assigned to traffic duty. The next council meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at City Hall, 8200 Westminster Blvd.
