An 80-year-old Kansas City man was convicted of murder for killing an elderly friend’s new husband with a baseball bat in Olathe, Kan., in February. Francis Patrick Doyle was convicted of first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder after prosecutors described how Doyle bludgeoned Lawrence Kubik, 77, and his wife, Marguerite Bacher-Kubik, also 77, in what they said was an attack inspired by jealousy. Kubik died and Bacher-Kubik was severely injured. Doyle, who faces life in prison, had been a close friend of Bacher-Kubik’s and had a key to her house.
