Man Gets 2 Years for Attacking Officers

A Tarzana man who pleaded no contest to attacking two LAPD officers and punching his parents was sentenced Tuesday to two years in county jail, the Los Angeles city attorney’s office said.

Van Nuys Municipal Court Commissioner Harold Vites ordered David Nelson Pryer, 25, to begin serving the jail time immediately on two counts of battery on a police officer, prosecutors said.

The case stemmed from a Dec. 2 altercation between Pryer and other family members, which escalated after Pryer became enraged and combative with police, prosecutors said.

Police originally responded to a report of a man beating his father with fists. When they arrived at Pryer’s Tarzana home they found him on a sidewalk, bleeding heavily from the nose and being restrained by an uncle.

The officers calmed Pryer down while they waited for paramedics to arrive. But after Pryer’s mother approached the officers and told them to arrest her son for attacking both her and her husband, Pryer challenged the police to a fight.

Pryer continued to challenge the officers and spit blood on them while kicking them, Deputy City Atty. Teddy Eden said. He was finally restrained and booked at the LAPD West Valley Station.
