Thieves Steal Washing Machines from Apartments, Motels for Coins
Thieves have come up with a new way to launder money.
Police said Friday that crooks are making off with coin-operated washing machines from motels and apartment buildings so they can rifle the coin boxes at their leisure.
Officers said 18 machines have been swiped over the last two months. The thieves enter unlocked laundry rooms, cut the water hoses and haul the machines away.
The machines have been found later, discarded, their coin boxes forced open and emptied. Officers are looking for two men, a woman and a red pickup truck based on descriptions provided by witnesses.
