Prop. 24 Ruling

* Re “State High Court Pulls Initiative Off March Ballot,” Dec. 14:

Rep. William M. Thomas (R-Bakersfield) writes a phony initiative taking away the state Legislature’s right to control redistricting, then sees a Republican-dominated state Supreme Court throw it out, because it is clearly unconstitutional. Knowing the people would once again reject this type of proposition, Thomas and his buddies cynically included a provision to cut the state’s legislators’ pay to entice voters to support it.

Maybe Thomas should return to teaching political science in a community college, since he clearly has forgotten everything he learned in school.

Why should the state Republican Party worry about not getting the Prop. 24 initiative on the ballot, which supposedly thus ensures permanent Republican minority status?

Since their plan for the surplus is to spend it all (can anybody say “tax cut”?) they should just junk their meaningless “Republican” label and be the Democrats they really are, thus ensuring permanent majority status.
