Appliance-Recycling Event Scheduled

Thousand Oaks residents fed up with their broken VCRs and outdated computers can recycle them at a Computer and Electronics Recycling Day on Jan. 8.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents may bring up to three household appliances--printers, monitors, fax machines, microwaves, computers and TVs, with their cords--to be recycled by the HMR Group.

“From the computers, most of it is separated into glass, plastic, metal and crushed down and bulked to be recycled into other useful products,” said Kate Thomas with the Thousand Oaks Public Works Department.

“We are just trying to keep the stuff out of the landfills,” she said. “Especially now that the Goodwill and the schools are not taking them because they are either too old or not working.”

The event will be held at 1993 Rancho Conejo Blvd. in Newbury Park, adjacent to the city’s Municipal Service Center.

Businesses interested in recycling computers may call the HMR Group at (310) 329-3458.
