UC Irvine Women Rout Northern Illinois, 65-41

The UC Irvine women’s basketball team is off to its best start in five seasons after defeating Northern Illinois, 65-41, Friday at UCI.

The Anteaters improved their record to 6-3, which equals their record through nine games in 1994-95.

UCI took a 14-point halftime lead, making 11 of 34 shots from the field compared to just seven of 25 for Northern Illinois.

The Anteaters then held the visiting Huskies to 21.2% shooting in the second half.

Shannon Anders scored 11 points and Megan Stafford made two three-pointers and scored 10 points for the Anteaters.

Eleven players scored for UCI and 10 had at least one rebound. The Anteaters also forced 19 turnovers and outrebounded Northern Illinois, 49-46.

Charbea Haller scored nine points and Michelle Johnson had 12 rebounds for the Huskies (1-8).
