At a special meeting Monday, the City Council approved the payment of city bills but could not agree on paying attorney fees to the law firm handling the legal activity involving City Manager Arthur Simonian.

Councilmen Hank Wedaa and Mark Schwing opposed paying $4,600 to Parker, Covert & Chidester, saying that they wanted more details about the services billed to the city. The law firm has been representing the city since August in legal matters brought on by and against Simonian, who has been accused of financial malfeasance.

Wedaa and Schwing, who have supported Simonian, objected to paying the attorneys during previous meetings, saying it is a waste of taxpayers’ dollars. Mayor John Gullixson and Councilwoman Barbara Kiley have been in favor of pursuing action against Simonian.
