Ritalin

Re “More and More, Families Seem Eager to Take the Ritalin Step,” by Dr. Lawrence H. Diller, Commentary, Dec. 27: I agree with him. My 8-year-old son has ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). My wife and I refused to put him on Ritalin. My son is operating two grade levels above his own. (He’s in third grade.) He was tested recently for the GATE program (gifted and talented education) and he scored over 95%. Between my wife and me and his teacher (who says he has greatly improved) we are trying very hard to deal with my son’s ADHD without drugs. I would hope more parents would do the same instead of putting their kids on Ritalin. My son will start the GATE program in January.
