Xircom Inc. Posts Record $96-Million Quarterly Sales

Xircom Inc. in Thousand Oaks reported that net sales for the first quarter ended Dec. 31 were a record $96 million, an 83% jump from the $52.5 million reported for the same period a year earlier, and a 9% increase compared with $88.1 million for the previous quarter.

Net income was a record $9.8 million, or 39 cents per share, compared with $2.4 million, or 11 cents per share, for the same period in 1997. In the previous quarter, net income was $7.9 million, or 33 cents per share.

“We continued to see strength in every aspect of the business this quarter,” said Dirk Gates, the company’s chairman, president and chief executive officer. “Financially, we had record performances throughout the income statement and the balance sheet. In only its second full quarter of shipments, the RealPort family of Integrated PC Cards now accounts for 40% of revenues.”

Xircom, founded in 1988, manufactures mobile communications products that connect portable computer users to corporate networks, the Internet and other online resources. Its products are sold and supported in more than 100 countries.
