The faces of commuters along Jamboree Road, Edinger Avenue and the Eastern Transportation Corridor will brighten Feb. 22. That’s the day the county’s Jamboree flyover at Edinger is scheduled to open, nearly one month earlier than the March 20 deadline, county Resident Engineer Gerald Schubert said. Contractor Kajima Engineering and Construction Co. will earn the maximum $1-million bonus.

The flyover will allow Jamboree commuters to travel nonstop from the Santa Ana Freeway and Eastern Transportation Corridor to Barranca Parkway. In addition, Edinger commuters will see about twice as long of a green light at Jamboree.

The corridor’s west leg--a seven-mile stretch from Santiago Canyon Road to the Santa Ana Freeway, where it intersects with Jamboree--is also scheduled to open Feb. 22, Transportation Corridor Agencies spokeswoman Michelle Miller said. In conjunction with the project, a 1.4-mile portion of Jamboree from the toll road to Moffett Road will be widened from three to four lanes on each side, she said, followed by widening from Moffett to Barranca.
