Board Asks DA to Consult It on Child Support Post

Share

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday asked that its Family Support Advisory Board be consulted by Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti as he searches for a new leader for his embattled child support unit.

The advisory board, which is comprised of child support advocates, county employees and others appointed by each supervisor, already has sought to be included in Garcetti’s search for a new executive for the agency.

Supervisor Mike Antonovich’s motion also called for Garcetti to report to the supervisors on the status of his search. “Lack of leadership has left the bureau in shambles,” Antonovich said in a press release.

The board authorized Garcetti to search for a new child support chief in December as part of a $3-million plan to revamp his child support operation after a Times series that revealed that the unit collects no money in nine out of 10 cases and holds millions of dollars it does collect in interest-bearing accounts.
