Markham was born Aug. 22, 1919, in Pennsylvania.

He served in the Army during World War II and, after receiving what he described as a calling in 1950, he attended American Baptist Seminary in Berkeley. He was ordained as a minister in 1953.

He worked at churches in Northern, Central and Southern California before starting Mike Markham Ministries in 1980. He was named a pastor emeritus at Calvary Community Church, where he also was on staff for 13 years.
