U.S. Aircraft Strike Anti-Ship Batteries

U.S. warplanes, pursuing the low-grade, sustained bombardment underway against Iraq for the past month, destroyed two of three anti-ship missile launchers that Iraq recently poised near Persian Gulf oil lanes, defense and intelligence officials said. U.S. planes also dropped precision-guided, 500-pound bombs on antiaircraft artillery and other air defense sites in the northern and southern “no-fly” zones, Pentagon officials said.
