The Clinton administration plans to propose changes in existing wine labels that would include references to the health effects of drinking wine. The Treasury Department is expected to announce the proposed new wording for the labels today, according to a senior administration official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “I think it’s a very major accomplishment,” said John DeLuca, president of the San Francisco-based Wine Institute. According to DeLuca, the new wording would not supplant the existing warnings on wine bottles, but would simply indicate that health benefits are also attributed to drinking wine.
