Open House Today at Self-Help Legal Center

Share

The Ventura County Superior Court’s new Self-Help Legal Access Center will hold an open house between 2 and 4 p.m. today to introduce and explain its services to the community.

The center opened in December to assist a growing number of self-represented, or “pro per,” litigants. It provides free bilingual information to help people navigate the often-confusing civil, traffic, criminal and family courts.

Officials hope it will help assist those who need to go to court on issues such as adoption, guardianship, jury services or traffic violations.

Staffed by attorney Carmen Ramirez and a court service assistant, the center provides books, videos and brochures on the law.

The center is in the Multi-Service Center, 1500 Colonia Road, Room 20, in Oxnard’s La Colonia neighborhood. It is open from 8 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Services are also available through the self-help center at the Ventura courthouse, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Room 106.
