Thank you for your article Jan. 25 regarding fire service on the Porter Ranch fire (“Firefighters Get Warm Thanks From Porter Ranch Residents”).

I feel that Los Angeles County residents have missed out on a positive application of their property tax money at work: Rehabilitation and sentencing accomplished by the L.A. County Jail Fire Suppression Camp No. 12, in a concerted effort with other camps. I am sure we as a whole are a substantial force that is needed to assist the L.A. County Fire Department.

I am an inmate trained in fire tactics, and I feel encouraged to participate. However, I’m curious [as to why] we are omitted or downplayed when we have become a staple.
